Meet Linda, one of our Strength for Life Members

Linda has been practising yoga for a few years now in Hawarden, with Emma, as well as joining in with the Live and Video Library classes.

At 73, she hopes to continue with yoga well into later years, as it keeps her flexible and moving, plus also balance which is so important as we age.

Introducing Strength for Life Member, Phil

Phil started with Pilates in 2017 following medical advice to prevent re-occurrence of a lower back problem. Progressing onto yoga a year later and has kept it up ever since, doing at least 3 evening yoga classes a week with The Good Food Yogi, supplemented with his own sessions to stretch out aching muscles and stiff joints. You’ll often catch Phil online on Zoom for 7:45am 15 minutes of pain! (As he calls it!)

Yoga Weekend Retreat - WOW

“An 11 out of 10 weekend with Emma at this brilliant venue. Peace, quiet, fresh air, rolling hills... and the chance to pretty much spend the weekend 'outdoors' moving the body and being very well fed - what's not to love.

I went with a friend - and it made for a great relaxed weekend to spend time together. There were others who came alone - and the group felt warm, connected and full of laughter.

Emma is a great yoga teacher (I hadn't done yoga for ages!) and a brilliant chef - and it just felt like all the little details had been thought about - so it was relaxed in timings and full of beautiful things.

The wild swim was a great afternoon activity - and the sauna option post swim was a real bonus. Can't recommend highly enough - I plan to go back again.”

Introducing Gill, one of our Strength for Life members

Hi, I’m Gill and I have just had my 70th birthday. I live on the Llyn Peninsula looking out over the sea. My sister, Sarah, introduced me to Emma’s online yoga one day when she was staying with me and I haven’t looked back since then. I like the Wednesday morning yoga technique class when we focus on something and I can use it in other lessons. I often struggle with some moves due to the osteoarthritis but Emma will always suggest something alternative to help keep strong.

Introducing Steve, one our long-standing, Strength for Life members

I started my yoga journey around seven years ago, by accident really, as I was having an issue with my shoulder. My physio, at the time, suggested I consider giving yoga a go, as all the exercises he was asking me to do, to resolve the problem were actually all yoga postures! I found Emma's yoga class in Hawarden, Flintshire by chance as it was the first one on google search and the rest is history.

Lower back pain - the cause and how to fix it

The main thing I see mostly in women is an arched lower back. Essentially this arched lower back is due to a very strong, tight lower back and without addressing the underlying causes this will continue to get stronger and tighter and eventually lead to lower back pain. The lower back muscles are basically pulling the pelvis upwards from the back so we end up with this forward pelvic tilt, which then causes other problems throughout the body, which may even show up before the lower back pain kicks in.
