Meet Julie and Neil, two of our online Members
Julie and Neil are both online Members and take advantage of the online yoga classes, as well as half price in-person yoga classes, with Julie attending Gladstone’s Library on Tuesday mornings and Neil attending Ashtanga on Tuesday evenings.
We are Julie 64 and Neil 59 (very soon to be 60!) We live just outside Chester with our Border Terrier Olive! We have a daughter who is 25 and lives in Manchester.
When did you start your yoga journey and how often do you practice yoga?
We both started yoga classes about four and a half years ago – I (Julie) did because I had been talking about trying yoga for at least 10 years! I had slipped a disc and had been advised that this would help strengthen my back. Neil came along after I said how much I was enjoying it!
What's your favourite class?
Julie – I prefer physical yoga classes and love the Tuesday morning class in Hawarden and now that I am very recently retired (yaaaay) am looking forward to joining the yoga class on a Thursday morning in Chester at oH Concept.
Neil – I try to join in with the morning online core drills when I can (as long as I’m back from the dog walk!) and although they are not easy I do enjoy them. Ashtanga on a Tuesday evening is challenging but worth the effort!
Why yoga / core classes help you?
Julie – [The classes are] definitely helping as I’ve not had any lower back pain in a very long time. I’m also wanting to keep my strength and flexibility for the future.
Neil – I do lots of hill walking and aerobic activities but I am finding that I need help with flexibility.
What's your least favourite yoga pose/core drill and why?
Julie – Has to be pigeon pose (most uncomfortable pose ever)!!!
Neil – I imagine it’s headstand (although I have never actually managed one)! My favourite yoga poses are boat pose and bridge.
Yoga Goals / Plans for the future - in general
Julie – From yoga I would like to keep and hopefully improve my flexibility – in general to carry on enjoying life – going to lots of gigs, skiing and having adventures in our little camper van!
Neil – All of the above plus lots of hill walking and watching Sale Sharks and Ireland play rugby.
Last meal on death row? / Your fav meal basically!
Julie – Always Fish and Chips (and a Twix)!
Neil – Roast Beef Dinner with Yorkshire pudding followed by pavlova!
