Meet Sarah, one of our Online Yoga Members

Hi! I’m Sarah.

I lived just outside Chester for over 30 years but moved to Edinburgh a couple of years ago.

I live with my adult son and our cat Pumpkin who is very sociable and who you might see during our online yoga sessions with Emma!

When did you start your yoga journey and how often do you practice yoga?

I did my first yoga class, as a first year student at university, almost 50 years ago! I have attended classes, on and off, ever since. However, it’s only last year, at 65 years old, that I managed my first yoga headstand! Thanks entirely to Emma’s clear explanations and careful preparatory steps.

What's your favourite class?

Mmm, I like all those I join, as Emma brings in themes and suggestions across the sessions. The yoga technique classes are great for focussing on different aspects to then take into my practice.

How do yoga / core classes help you?

The core classes help my yoga practice but have also significantly reduced bouts of back pain. I can switch on my core now when cycling or walking which protects the lower back. My neck is also stronger which is a good counter to too many hours working in front of a screen.

What's your least favourite yoga pose/core drill and why?

Wheel! I did it without a thought when I was young but now it seems impossible to get my head even a millimetre off the ground!

Yoga Goals / Plans for the future?

I can do a handstand though it may take a few attempts to get up into it and I would not risk it without a wall! I would like to go up more gracefully. Core classes help me in the ‘use it or lose it’ mantra.

Last meal on death row? / Your fav meal basically!

I have been veggie for 50 years and made the shift to a plant-based diet 5 years ago. I love anything with aubergine and nothing beats a good mezze.
