Meet Emma, founder of The Good Food Yogi

This week we speak to…me!

Thought I’d kick off this regular feature with myself, to get the ball rolling. If you’d like to feature, get in touch to answer a few simple questions to give our lovely community a little insight to you and your journey.

How often do you practice yoga?

I practice in my live classes (yay!) and do core drills religiously everyday (unless I'm on holiday). I kind of have to turn up everyday because there's a lot of people waiting at the other end!

I also do a practice myself, first thing about 6 am followed by some deep breathing (ideally outside when it's not too cold!) My practice can be Ashtanga or a slower practice or I might do some ongoing, online training courses. It depends how I feel on the morning. I try to move everyday or I seize up.

What's your favourite class?

My favourite class is all of them! I like the variety! At 7:45am I wouldn't say it was a core class but at 8am I'd say it's definitely a core class!

Why yoga / core?

Yoga and core help my body and my mind. I find I have a very busy mind and yoga helps me to get out of my mind and into my body! I know that if I don't do yoga I start feeling general aches and pains in the body. Creaking, crunching, popping! The noises start then the unexplained aches! I generally just feel like I'm aging and quickly! The core classes have completely transformed my body, strength and upped my yoga skills like I never thought it could with just 15 mins a day!

What's your least favourite yoga pose/core drill and why?

I still hate wheel pose - that horrible backbend. It feels like my body doubles in weight the second I have to push and lift! But I know it's in my mind. I typically do more pre-wheel exercises before I do go into wheel which really makes a difference and I always do three. That thirds wheel is always the best, even though it feels like the hardest!

Yoga goals / plans for the future?

I'm still working on my handstand and trying to hold it for a good length of time. I've also been getting into running and the core drills have changed how I run completely. I used to get back pain and would give up quite quickly in the past but I'm really getting into it and mainly because of that opportunity to be outside.

In general, continuing my yoga practice and development to help my business and my community. The more I practice, learn and grow myself, the more I can pass on to others and help them. I'm keen to continue to grow our amazing, lovely membership community and help them in anyway I can.

Last meal on death row?

It used to be chicken curry and chips! Now it would be still a curry but probably a veg and tofu curry or a big buddha bowl full of mushrooms, beans, crispy tofu, sticky rice, lots of fresh colourful veg and pickled, sweet ginger on the side! Oh and a ton of crispy, roasted salty and sour kale. Pretty much what I eat most days. It’s just v delicious!
