September: a new month, a new season; a new yoga focus

Summer has been good with lots of heat! With the weather and also in our online yoga classes. August brought us a month of core-strength focused classes.

We explored those deep core muscles and our monthly workshop featured an exploration of the abs.

We’re stepping into a bit of a reset, with that back-to-school, new season feeling as we step into September, whether you’ve got kids back or it just feels like that in your body, as a fully-grown adult, it’s always good to get back to a bit of a routine.

I’ve always found routine and structure to be helpful for me personally. Consistency is powerful and that’s why I created my morning yoga and strength classes. Just 30 or 15 minutes each day makes a huge difference long-term.

September is bringing a focus on the chest and shoulders to help improve strength and mobility for better posture. Expect to feel taller, more open across the front of the chest and much stronger in the upper back muscles which helps relieve tired, stressed shoulders. Feeling more open across the chest is helpful to improve our lung capacity which is beneficial for building stamina and reducing stress by breathing deeper and stronger.

Chest-openers can also been classed as back-bending and for most of us, we’re already strong in the lower back and this is where we can also typically feel pain and need some relief. In my classes and the workshop, I’ll teach you how to focus more on finding movement in the upper and mid part of the back, whilst looking after the lower part of the back. Understanding our shoulders and the role they play in chest-openers can be really helpful when approaching backbends.

What we’re building, together, in September:

Online Yoga Workshop

Legs, glutes and feet: (live online yoga workshop)
Monday 21 September, 6pm (90 mins)

Show up for your usual Monday 6pm live class for a slightly longer session and a chance to pick up some new tips and techniques to work on over the coming weeks. There’ll be a Q&A at the end too. It will also be recorded for the Video Library if you miss it or want to revisit it. This month it’s all about strengthening the legs, glutes and feet.

Opportunities to grow and connect

5 minute live Q&As, after 60 minute classes
Just stay online after class and ask a question

It’s a chance to go over something specific from the class or just ask a question about something you’re working on/trying to achieve. Drop me a message beforehand or give a shoutout on the WhatsApp group chat.

Supporting your nervous system

Restorative and Yin Yoga sessions
Thursday 17 September, 6pm 90 min Yin Yoga

It’s so important nowadays to schedule in time for recovery activities. These sessions are always popular and now you can expect them a little more regularly. An opportunity to relax at home, breathe deep, calm the body and drop into that parasympathetic side of your nervous system.

Our regular weekday morning
15–30 minute strength and yoga sessions

We’ve had some new people joining too and I hope you’re feeling these benefits. As we do shorter classes first thing, aim to fit in at least 2-3 morning classes a week to really feel the benefits.

And if you’re reading this from outside the Membership and this sounds like the kind of rhythm and accountability you need, you’re more than welcome to join us, anytime.
